As a family, we have been clients of John for four generations, each of which, always received the kind, personal welcome that was his trademark whenever we ventured into the shop. On one of my annual visits, he asked me if I played snooker and was promptly given a key, one of many he had distributed, into his inner sanctum. It was still two years before we actually made a date to play, from then it became a weekly event, neither of us getting much better, even with the aid of Dennis Taylor glasses! Others have joined us to ensure continuity and variety over the years providing many memorable evenings playing snooker or cricket. Listening to John's records and discs and drinking a few beers will always remind me of the most giving, unselfish and contented man I have ever known. John's love of music and the desire to see people happy and enjoying themselves extended to his legendary parties on "The Green" where he would have cajoled different acts from his and Elaine's many cruises to come to entertain his many and varied friends. We could go on endlessly with stories and memories, but now is the time for silent tears as we remember this truly remarkable man we have been privileged to call our friend. David & Sandra Ward
