Uncle John, you will be so missed. Thank you for many very silly times when I was small, and in more recent years some very sophisticated ones - much more sophisticated than I could ever have aspired to on my own account, whether sneaking into your hotel buffet breakfasts when you and Auntie Elaine came down to London, great seats at the theatre for wonderful plays, or our trip to Ronnie Scott's which will always be a very special memory. Unfailingly generous, you encouraged me to have my first very occasional job in your shop, and allowed me to keep coming even though I did loads of completely hopeless things (which I suppose is called nepotism), and also kept trying to teach me snooker, although I was hopeless at that too! Your home with Auntie Elaine has always been a place of lightness, fun and creativity, where everything from putting on a record to mixing a drink is made special and exciting. Your parties have always been proper parties! I know that you are both so loved by all my mum's family too, and were especially so by my Granny. What will we do without you.
